As the war between Israel and Hezbollah escalates USA, UK, the European Union and their other allies have called for a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon.
Eleven countries and the European Union have proposed an immediate 21-day cessation of hostilities and a cease-fire in Gaza to ‘allow for a diplomatic solution’ to the issue.
In a joint statement they said such a ceasefire was intolerable and would endanger regional stability in the Middle East, neither in the interests of Israel nor the people of Lebanon.
The ceasefire proposal came as Israel’s military chief told his troops that massive airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon could give them ‘entry into enemy territory’.
At least 492 people have been killed in massive Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said. They say it is the deadliest conflict day in twenty years.
Thousands of people fled their homes. Israel’s military says it has struck 13 targets to destroy infrastructure built by Hezbollah since the 2006 war.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah fired 200 rockets at northern Israel, the military said. Two were injured.
Meanwhile, world powers have called for restraint as both sides move towards an all-out war.
Lebanon’s health ministry said 35 children and 58 women were among the dead. And 1 thousand 645 people were injured.
However, there was no information about the number of civilians or fighters among the casualties.
The country’s health minister, Firas Abiad, said the attack had displaced thousands of families.
