‘I can’t do injustice to our people of Bengal to get justice; Dev stands by Mamata in festival debate

We can be against the government, but we cannot be against our people of Bengal, we will return to the festival and support hon. Mamata! Returning to the festival it does not mean stopping the protests, clarified the Trinamool star MP.

Trinamool’s star MP Dev came under fire on social media for keeping silent for a long time on the brutal incident of RG tax. Dev, who was in a holiday mood abroad,he was remained silent himsef by lamenting the delayed release of Tekka’s teaser by the production company. Later, however, I will join the protest against the RG tax case at the call of Artist Forum.

After one month later the teaser of Tekka came out. Dev’s Pujo Release Srijit Mukherjee directed this film. The artistes are repeatedly brought to court on the issue of RG tax. Many have called for a boycott of ‘Tekka’ as Dev’s co-star, Swastika said, ‘I am not returning to the festival’. Dev expressed his views on the current situation in the state at the teaser launch of Tekka. Which is really explosive.

Dev spoke openly about the controversy that has arisen around Durgotsava and Chief Minister’s festival. He said, ‘What is the festival? Festival means to bind people, festival means to keep people together. Festivals are not just celebrations. Festival also means sharing ideas of protest. The concept of festival came to our country so that all people can be united by erasing the difference between rich and poor, caste and small. The festival does not stop protesting. The festival was born during the British period. I even celebrated Ganesh Puja while sitting in jail while acting in Baghajatin. In the festival all people will be united, people will get a chance to discuss. So?

It’s not just your and my festival, our five-day festival is five months of income for many. In the era of mall culture, shopping is done in single-stand alone shops during Puja. Because they are not returning to the festival, they are not buying and selling. Who will give them justice? But I am not speaking against anyone.’

Dev also said, ‘The festival is everyone’s, but the protest is everyone’s. I would say not returning to festivals, promoting my films, doing my own events – that is also a bad message. 6-8 month expenses of the dhakis are covered by the earnings of the Puja period. We can be against the government, but we cannot be against the people of Bengal, two different things. I may be against the government, today there is this government, tomorrow another government will come. But I cannot do injustice to other people of Bengal to get justice. No one is protesting by stopping their jobs. Everyone is going to work every day, what is entertainment to you, is my livelihood to me’.

The decision to release the film is made keeping in mind the interests of all. Dev said, no government made him a superstar, he was made a man of Bengal. He said, “For these 17-18 years, no government has been made by Dev the people of Bengal have made it.” If I am 100, I will release the film, I don’t think that 10 or 20 people work, some sell popcorn, some clean bathrooms. They have a team. If I don’t release the film at 100, then what will they do?’

Incidentally, Dev was seen as a kidnapper in the teaser of Tekka. Why Jamadar Dev abducted a schoolgirl by profession, that tangle will open on the screen. Swastika is sharing the screen with Dev for the first time in the film. Rukmini Maitra is also playing the role of a police officer.
